Mountain Bike Skills Course

This 4 week course is aimed at mountain bike riders, of any ability, who want to improve their riding skills. Whether you have been riding for two weeks or ten years you can always improve your skills, correct bad habits or just finesse your style.
This course is based on the leading international standard of MTB instruction from PMBI (Professional Mountain Bike Instructors Association) and presented by qualified Level 2 PMBI instructor.
During this course you will be individually instructed on all the fundamentals of riding your mountain bike. You will be riding smoother, faster, with more confidence and control on completion of this course. Increase the skills, increase the fun.
It is important that you can commit to, and attend, all four of the sessions. This course is designed to be progressive and each week’s skills builds upon the last.
This course will cost $50 per person. You do not need to be an AusCycling member to attend this course. However; it is preferable that you are a DORC member. All proceeds from this course go to DORC as our instructors are volunteers. This Course will be limited to eight riders and participants must be over 18 years of age.
Course Program
Week 1. Sun 20th Aug: Bike set up, body position and balance on the bike, (easy ride through the Old Pine Forest)
Week 2. Sun 27th Aug: Revise week 1, effective braking, smooth cornering, trail awareness (easy ride through the Old Pine Forest)
Week 3. Sun 3rd Sep: Revise week 2, negotiating trail features, wheel lifts (easy ride through the New Pine Forest)
Week 4. Sun 10th Sep: Revise Week 3, pumping, climbing/descending, riding switchbacks (easy ride in Charles Darwin National Park)
All sessions will commence at 8:00am Sundays and will be approx 2 – 2.5 hours in duration. All participants are required to arrive 15 min prior to the start time to ensure that they are ready to start at 8:00am.
You will need a MTB in safe working order, Australian standards helmet, gloves, enclosed footwear, spare tube, puncture repair kit, multi/bike tool, pump, minimum of 2lt drinking water and proof of DORC membership.
