Spokes Trail Intermediate Ride 25 Feb ’23

22/02/2023 by Geoff Fox

Spokes Trail

Every Saturday afternoon DORC host a social mountain bike ride in different locations around the Darwin area. The aim of these rides is to get all level riders together to enjoy our sport and trails in a friendly supportive environment. These rides can help familiarise you with our local trail networks. They are also a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people.

After some negotiation with the Department of Crown Lands and AusCycling, DORC can now recommence hosting social rides on the Spokes Trail. This Saturday 25th Feb 2023 the social ride will be at the Spokes Trail, Palmerston. The ride will be for intermediate+ level riders. You will have a strong understanding and practice of braking, shifting, cornering and descending. You are able to navigate variable terrain at a good pace. You are confident and comfortable riding singletrack trails and can easily navigate roots, rocks, mud, sand and creek crossings. You are capable of a front wheel and rear wheel lift and can put the two together to navigate over obstacles/trail features. You are fairly confident on steep climbs and descents, but you may walk sections on trails that are rated Black or Double Black. Spokes Trail is a Blue Level trail with some more difficult features, rocky sections and pinch climbs. It will be at the discretion of the ride leader to request that you leave the ride if you are deemed unable to reasonably maintain the group pace or safely negotiate the trail features.

We will be meeting in the Palmerston Rural Hospital carpark, please see the attached photograph. Please arrive at 4:45pm for a 5:00pm start.

Post ride rehydration is BYO for this ride.

It’s that time of year again and there could be showers or storms around on the day of the ride, if so please watch this post for cancellation details. We will make a decision no later than 4pm.

It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure that they have a current Auscycling Licence, this is to make sure we follow the Auscycling insurance requirements. If you are a non member and would like to join us just follow the link and take advantage of the AusCycling four week free trial membership. click here.

Please adhere to social distancing guide lines. If you are feeling unwell or displaying symptoms please stay home.
