Veteran’s Health Week Social Ride.

12/09/2022 by Geoff Fox

DORC (Darwin Off Road Cyclists), with assistance from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, will be holding a social ride as part of Veterans’ Health Week 2022. This ride will be held at the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs on Saturday 8th Oct 2022 and is open to all Veterans, Australian Defence Force members, their families and DORC members. This year’s theme “Eat Well” highlights how important eating well is for an individual’s overall health and wellbeing. There are many benefits to eating a healthy, well balanced diet and being active which include improving our physical and mental health.  DORC would like to facilitate an opportunity to also develop social connections by offering a social ride and free healthy feed, on completion of the ride. This will be an opportunity to bring together our DORC members, some of who are also veterans or currently serving members, and create new relationships and connections with our local veterans and serving defence members.

If you are not a member of AusCycling you will need to complete a recreational waiver form before you commence the ride.

You will need a mtb in good working order, an Australian standards approved helmet, enclosed footwear, gloves and plenty of water. Riders please be self-sufficient with water, spare tube, pump and tyre levers, etc.

On completion of the ride there will be free tasty, healthy wraps (with gluten free and vegetarian options) and fruit platters. Drinks will be supplied for all involved in the ride, including plenty of water.

The meeting point for this ride will be the carpark at the entrance to the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs Rd, Howard Springs. To get there, travel down Howard Springs Rd to the intersection of Stow Rd and Howard Springs Rd. On the left hand side of Howard Springs Rd approx 300m past the Stow Rd intersection is the parking area for the Old Pine Forest. Please arrive no later than 4:15pm for a 4:30pm start.

Location Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs
Meeting point Howard Springs Rd, Howard Springs
Date Saturday 8 Oct ’22
Time 4:15 pm for a 4:30 pm start

The ride will be at an easy pace and will be approx 1.5 hours in duration. This will comprise two laps of the Old Pine Forest, at approx 40 minutes a lap. You will be able to do just one lap if you choose.  There will be  plenty of breaks along the way to regroup.

Join us for a relaxed, fun ride and if you grab some tucker it might save you cooking dinner 🙂

Please see the ride leader before the start of the ride.
