DORC are excited to advise that Tourism NT have engaged TRC Tourism to develop a Mountain Bike Master Plan for the NT.
As a local stakeholder DORC will be working with TRC Tourism to ensure the Darwin MTB community has input into this process. To start with TRC Tourism will be focusing on the below questions.
1. What are the current mountain bike opportunities in the NT and are there new opportunities that should be further developed?
2. Do the needs of the local community vary from those of visitors in terms of mountain biking?
3. What is required to position the Northern Territory as a recognised destination for mountain bike riding?
4. Beyond this, how can it become world class?
5. What are the challenges to achieving this?
If you would like to have input into the above or have suggestions of your own please email darwinoffroadcyclists@gmail.com by Sat 3 Oct 15 and DORC will raise these at the meeting with TRC Tourism on the 5 Oct.
Please ensure you include your contact details in the email just incase we need to contact you to clarify anything.
The success of this project will depend greatly on the quality of input we raise so please share your thoughts and ideas to ensure the Master Plan becomes a useful foundation for putting the NT well and truly on the MTB map.

I went to Cairns and the Tablelands in Atherton on an annual whiite water kayaking trip with 8 paddlers. We have passed through Atherton on many occasions and it did not have many varied options for a traveller to do and was not well frequented by many travlers. This year we checked out the mountain bike trails in Atherton and found that they started and ended in Atherton town ship, it’s exciting to see how much this has transformed Atherton. Bike shops in Atherton and Cairns service tourists and many local riders due to the quality tracks built. The amount of people in the town has turned it from a sleepy backwater to a thriving town
If you want a definitive answer on why NT needs good trails look no further than Atherton, for more look at Pemberton in WA

Could we advocate for a limited opening up of the National Parks -there has been talk of a MTB track opening up in Litchfield for years or even locations like Edith falls
