DORC (Darwin Off Road Cyclists) in conjuction with Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Veteran Sport Australia will be holding a social ride as part of Veterans’ Health Week 2020. This ride will be held at the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs on 31st Oct ’20 and is open to all Veterans, Australian Defence Force members, their families and DORC members. This year’s Veterans’ Health Week theme is “Social Connections”. It is very important for our veterans, servicing members and their families to develop social connections and relationships within their wider community. Recreational sport is a great way to achieve this and what better way to meet people than out on your bike. DORC would like to facilitate an opportunity to develop these social connections by offering a social ride and free bbq. We would like to bring together our DORC members, some of who are also veterans or currently servicing members, and create new relationships and connections with our local veterans and serving defence members.
You will need a mtb in good working order, a helmet, enclosed footwear, gloves and plenty of water. Riders please be self-sufficient with water, spare tube, pump and tyre levers, etc
On completion of the ride there will be a free BBQ with soft drinks and water supplied for all involved in the ride.
The meeting point for this ride will be the carpark at the entrance to the Old Pine Forest, Howard Springs Rd, Howard Springs. To get there, travel down Howard Springs Rd to the intersection of Stow Rd and Howard Springs Rd. On the left hand side of Howard Springs Rd approx 300m past the Stow Rd intertsection is the parking area for the Old Pine Forest. Please arrive at 3:45pm for a 4:00pm start.
As part of our COVID-19 plan we are required to collect names and phone numbers of everyone participating in our events. These will be used for contact tracing in the unlikely event that an outbreak does occur. We also encourage everyone to download and install the COVID Safe app.
